Residential Metal Roofing on the Mississippi Gulf Coast
Gulf South Roofing installs residential metal roof systems across the Mississippi Gulf Coast from its Gulfport office. The company runs its own panel former and sheet metal shop, which means standing seam and snap-lock panels are cut to your roof in your driveway rather than ordered and adapted. Every installation carries a 3-, 5- or 10-year workmanship warranty.

Scope
What does a residential metal roof installation include?
Metal is the most detail-dependent system we put on a home — the panels are the easy part. These are the parts of every Gulf South Roofing residential metal roof.
In the order it happens on your roof
Six stages

Panel forming at your home
Standing seam and snap-lock panels are run through our own former in your driveway, cut to your roof’s exact lengths — no seams where a shipped panel fell short.

Tear-off and deck inspection
The old roof comes off to the deck. Sheathing that cannot hold a fastener is replaced before any panel goes down, because a metal roof is only as strong as what it is screwed to.

High-temperature underlayment
A metal roof runs hotter than shingle. The underlayment beneath it is specified for that, not carried over from a shingle job.

Custom trim and flashing
Ridge, hip, eave, rake, valley and chimney trim bent in our Gulfport sheet metal shop to match the panel profile — including profiles nobody stocks.

Concealed clip fastening
On hidden-fastener systems, panels attach with concealed clips that let the metal expand and contract through a Gulf Coast summer without oil-canning or backing screws out.

Sealed penetrations
Every pipe, vent and chimney flashed in metal and sealed — penetrations are where metal roofs leak, and where ours are detailed most carefully.

The systems
Metal roofing systems we install on Gulf Coast homes
What is a hidden fastener (standing seam) system?
Standing seam and snap-lock panels lock together over concealed clips, so no fastener is exposed to the weather. It is the sleekest, most durable system we install on a home, with unmatched wind resistance.
- Formed on site: Panels cut to your roof’s exact lengths the day they go down.
- No exposed screws: Concealed clips carry the panel, so there is no gasketed screw head to age in the sun.
- Thermal movement: Clips let panels expand and contract without stress — the reason these systems last 40–70 years.

Metal vs. asphalt shingle on the Gulf Coast
| Metal | Architectural shingle | |
|---|---|---|
| Lifespan | 40–70 years | 15–25 years |
| Wind resistance | Highest we install | Rated to 130 MPH |
| Upfront cost | Higher | Lower |
| Maintenance | Low — hidden fastener systems need little | Moderate — periodic inspection |
| Energy | Reflects heat; cooler attic in a Gulf summer | Absorbs more heat |
| Best for | The last roof you plan to buy | Best value per year of protection |
Both systems are installed by Gulf South Roofing crews on the same prepared deck. The estimate prices both if you want the comparison for your own roof.
What homeowners say about the metal work
Gulf South Roofing does not complete a job until it is done right. They came in and followed up on resolving other issues with our standing seam metal roof done by another local roofing company. If you value integrity, professionalism, quality work, and competitive pricing, check out Gulf South Roofing.
Gulf South Roofing did a phenomenal job on replacing the roof on my house. The roof itself looks great and we have had no issues years later. Everyone who worked there was wonderful to deal with and they were very fast with the installation.
Residential metal roofing FAQs — Gulfport & the Mississippi Gulf Coast
How long does a metal roof last on the Mississippi Gulf Coast?
A properly installed hidden-fastener metal roof lasts 40 to 70 years on the coast — two to three times the life of asphalt shingle.
The range depends on the system, the finish and the detailing. Standing seam with a quality finish sits at the top of it; exposed fastener systems need their gasketed screws checked as they age. Salt air is harder on cheap finishes than most owners expect, which is why we specify coastal-rated coil.
Is a metal roof more expensive than shingles?
Yes upfront — but over its life a metal roof usually costs less per year of protection than asphalt.
A 50-year system that costs more than a 20-year system is not more expensive per year, and it may go through zero replacements while the shingle roof goes through two. Financing is available through Hearth if spreading the cost makes the better roof reachable now.
Can metal roofs withstand hurricanes on the Gulf Coast?
Metal carries the highest wind uplift ratings of any system we install, and hidden-fastener systems perform best of all.
Wind resistance comes from the fastening schedule and the edge detail, not the panel alone. Our systems are installed to the tested fastening pattern, and the eave, rake and ridge trim — where uplift starts — is fabricated and installed by the same crew.
Will a metal roof make my house hotter?
No — the opposite. Metal reflects solar heat that shingle absorbs, and most owners see cooler attics in summer.
Finish color matters, and so does the ventilation underneath. We assess ridge and intake ventilation as part of the installation, the same as on every roof we build.
Will a metal roof be noisy in the rain?
Not on a home. The panels sit over a solid deck and underlayment, which damps rain noise to about what a shingle roof produces.
The tin-roof-on-a-barn sound comes from panels spanning open framing with nothing underneath. A residential system over decking and high-temperature underlayment behaves completely differently.
