Warning signs

Common roof problems we fix

A damaged roof leads to leaks, mold and structural damage if it waits. These are the six problems behind most of the repair calls we get, and none of them improves on its own.

In the order it happens on your roof

Six stages

  1. Water stains spreading across a ceiling and wall corner from an active roof leak in a Mississippi Gulf Coast homeLeak stains show up well after the water gets in

    Leaks and water damage

Water stains, dripping, or moisture inside the house. The stain is rarely under the hole — finding the entry point is the actual repair skill.

  2. Missing architectural shingle tab exposing the underlayment on a Gulf Coast Mississippi roof before repairA missing tab, fast to fix while the deck is dry

    Missing or damaged shingles

Cracked, curled or missing shingles leave the underlayment doing a job it was never meant to do alone. Fast to fix while the deck under them is still dry.

  3. New black step flashing sealed against a brick chimney on a grey architectural shingle roof in Gulfport MississippiFlashing and edge metal: step flashing run up a brick chimney, bent in our own Gulfport shop.

    Flashing failures

Chimneys, vents, skylights and wall junctions. Most leaks start at flashing, not in the field — and our own sheet metal shop bends replacements for profiles nobody stocks.

  4. Aging shingle roof with weathered pipe boots and vents photographed during a Gulf South Roofing repair inspection on the Gulf CoastPipe boots fail years before the roof does

    Failed pipe boots

The rubber collar around plumbing vents dries out and splits years before the roof itself is done. A small repair that prevents a stained ceiling.

  5. Close-up of heavy granule loss on aging architectural shingles at the eave of a Mississippi Gulf Coast roofGranules in the gutter are the roof aging out loud

    Granule loss

Bald spots shorten shingle life and show up as granules in the gutters. Sometimes a repair, sometimes the first honest sign of the end-of-life conversation.

  6. Tree limb puncture through architectural shingles on a Mississippi Gulf Coast roof after a storm, before repairStorm damage, documented before repair

    Storm damage

Wind-lifted tabs, limb punctures and hail bruising, much of it invisible from the ground and worse by the next rain. Photographed and documented so your insurer can use it.

Roof Repair FAQs for Gulfport & the Mississippi Gulf Coast

How do I know if my roof needs repairs?

Water stains, missing or curled shingles, granules in the gutters, and daylight in the attic are the usual signs.

Most damage is invisible from the ground, and a leak shows up inside the house well after it starts on the roof. A free inspection photographs the field, flashing and attic and gives you a straight answer with the evidence attached.

Can you repair a roof leak without replacing the entire roof?

Usually, yes. Most leaks trace to flashing, a pipe boot or a small damaged area that can be repaired in place.

The exception is a roof brittle enough that working the repair would break the shingles around it. In that case a repair costs you the same money twice, and we tell you so before starting rather than after.

How long do roof repairs take?

It depends on what the inspection finds, and a project manager can give you a realistic expectation once they have seen the roof.

A repair can be anything from a pipe boot to a section of deck, and materials sometimes have to be matched and ordered, so we do not publish a standard timeline. Active leaks are triaged first either way.

Can you document storm damage for my insurance company?

Yes. Every finding is photographed and dated, and we can be present when the adjuster visits.

We are not a claims-chasing operation — which is exactly why the documentation is useful. It records what is actually on the roof, from a local contractor who will still be here after the claim closes.

Are you licensed and insured for repair work?

Yes. Gulf South Roofing is licensed and insured in Mississippi, for repairs as for full replacements.

Every repair comes with a written scope before the work starts, and flashing work uses metal fabricated in our own Gulfport sheet metal shop.

Where do you repair roofs?

Across Hancock, Harrison and Jackson counties from our office at 2811 26th Avenue in Gulfport.

Every city in the three counties. Harrison County: Gulfport, Biloxi, Long Beach, Pass Christian, D'Iberville, Lyman and Saucier; Hancock County: Diamondhead, Bay St. Louis, Waveland and Kiln; Jackson County: Ocean Springs, Pascagoula, Moss Point, St. Martin, Vancleave and Gautier.
